Welcome to MVCA Upper School!   
 
For students entering middle school, they are entering a whole ‘new world’.  This ‘new world’ can be filled with emotions ranging from excitement to apprehension.  There are different schedules, multiple teachers, new opportunities and a whole lot more.   
 
For students returning to middle school, they are returning to a ‘familiar world’.  However, even for these students, there may be some new components to this ‘familiar world’ called middle school. 
 
Whether a student is just entering or returning to middle school, the MVCA Upper School staff strives to be attentive to the spiritual, academic and emotional needs of each student. 
 
Some of what you can expect at the MVCA Upper School is listed below. 
 

• Bible – Students have the opportunity to learn God’s Word in Daring Deliverers (6th), Joseph: A Character Study (7th) and The Life of Christ (8th).  Most importantly, students have the opportunity to begin and/or strengthen a relationship with Jesus Christ. 

 

• ELA – Students have the opportunity to enhance/improve their grammar skills, vocabulary, spelling skills, reading comprehension, and composition techniques through a variety of literary experiences.   

 

• Math – Students have the opportunity to expand upon previously learned/mastered skills and incorporate higher-level problem-solving skills and algebraic concepts. 

 

• Science – Students have the opportunity to explore the world around us in Earth Science, Life Science and Physical Science.  

 

• History - Students have the opportunity to examine ancient civilizations (6th) and American history (7th and 8th). 

 

• Exploratory Classes (Specials) – These classes have included Music, Drama, Spanish, Art, Physical Education, Drama, Character Building, Culinary, and STEM.  However, Exploratory class options may change from Semester to Semester. 

 

• Athletics – Athletic opportunities are offered based on student interest.  Soccer, volleyball, tennis, basketball and bowling are some of the athletic opportunities that have been offered to our students.  Through these athletic opportunities, it is our desire that each student would recognize, appreciate and use their abilities to always honor God. 

 

• Ministry/Service Projects – Students are given amazing opportunities, on campus and off campus, to share the love of Christ.  Some of those opportunities include the Shower Trailer ministry, Seedline Bible Project (Breezy Hill), Operation Christmas Child, Aiken County Detention Center (Christmas cards), Cumbee Center, My Father’s House, Trunk-A-Treat (Midland Valley) and Easter Outreach (Midland Valley). 

 

• Chapel Services – These services, held on Wednesdays, are a huge part of our week.    At times, we join with the Lower School for a combined Chapel service and other times we have a separate Chapel service for the Upper School.  Either way, we gather together to worship God!
